Election 2008 (News You Can Use)

The 2008 Election is nigh and I hope all you have registered to vote.

Remember that your vote counts and the only poll that really MATTERS, is the ballot cast on Election Day(s).

At this point in the game, you should NOT be undecided.  So chose your choice and VOTE (Early vote, if you can)!!

The nonpartisan Election Protection Coalition has launched its national 1-866-OUR-VOTE voter assistance hotline and the poll location website www.MyPollingPlace.com. 1-866-OUR-VOTE is the only national voter assistance hotline staffed by live call center operators trained to provide state specific assistance to all voters.

If your name, for whatever reason, does not show up on the Voter’s Roll, DO NOT cast a provisional ballot. Call 1-866-OUR-VOTE and the call center staff will assist you through the process.

Also check out, The Vote for Change, there you will find ID requirement info, Voter Rights, how to report voting problems, etc. A great resource!!

See you at the Polls,

Pink Eye Shadow Swatches

I decided to post some Pink e/s swatches, so you can compare.  (I also updated the Swatch Gallery, so you can see more pink eye shadow swatches)  My favorite non-Too Faced pink e/s is Nouba 51 (Bright Pink).  I am not sure if the picture gives it justice, but the color is sharp and the texture is smooth.  Definitely worth checking out.

Nouba 51

I found out that the Nouba brand uses similar or the same ingredients as MAC products and the prices are very similar, actually Nouba is slightly more expensive than MAC, while the e/s packaging is similar to NARS, same rubber exterior and interior mirror.
If you want to check out online, here are some stores.
  • Bebeautiful – Offers Nouba at a discounted rate.
  • Beauty Encounter – Has great photos of these products, since I have already some, I can tell you the colors (images) are pretty accurate.

On The Hunt For Pink October

I have been totally obsessed with obtaining Pink eye shadow (e/s) for the last few months.  In the past, I have poo-pooed the thought of any WOC (women of color) using pink eye shadow on the lid because I felt like it did not work.

You are probably thinking “when did this change of heart occur with Pink e/s?” The Heatherette for MAC! The Heatherette Trio 2 included a light pink, a grape purple and midtone pink.  I got the Trio #1 instead because I love any shade of teal. But then, I noticed many Heatherette Trio #2 WOC FOTDs on Specktra.

During the early part of the summer, I realized  that I needed to have the Heatherette trio #2 in my collection.  I searched high and low for the Trio, but I could not find it, so I was on the hunt for mid-tone pinks.

To date I have:

  • Urban Decay Hot Pants – Smooth and wonderful.
  • MAC Sunset B – The right shade, lustre-like (which is not good), but definitely works with some paint pots and NYX jumbo eye pencils
  • NYX Dolly Pink – too much fall out, seems to work well with NYX jumbo eye pencils
  • Pink Too Faced Shadows – Wonderful and smooth, the color payoff is strong.  Definite must haves! Check out Swatch Gallery for images.
  • Nouba single e/s 51 – Bright Pink shadow is a must have. The texture is smooth and the color payoff is strong as well.  (Sidebar: I have a few of the Nouba products, an Italian cosmetics brand, and I really like the stuff I have.  The price is comparable to MAC, but I have found a website that offers discount prices on the brand)
  • Bourjois Shimmering Shine Eye Shadow in Rose Electron – I have only swatched it on my hand and the liquid eye shadow is quite brilliant and I cannot wait to wear it
  • Korres Pink e/s – Looks like a soft silvery pink on me.
  • Pop Eye Cakes in Bright Pink – The texture and color payoff are fine, but I think with a good eye shadow base, the pinks will sing. 🙂

Eye Shadow Review And FOTD

Hey Pumps and Gloss-ers,

Please add Purely Cosmetics to my list of favorite brands.

Purely Cosmetics is a mineral cosmetics company based in California.  The owner, Robyn, is a mentch (just for you, Robyn).  😉 She sent me a few samples of the new, limited edition Cream To Powder Shadows.  I absolutely love them.  The shadows are solid, yet soft.  The shadow has staying power and highly blendable. Some have compared it to MAC’s Paint Pots, but I think the Cream To Powder Shadows are better than Paint Pots *gasp* and I love Paint Pot as a shadow base, but not as shadow. The shadows glide on the eyelid with no streaking and the color payoff is strong.  I tell you, I am in love.

In the FOTD below, I used the Cream to Powder shadow as base and shadow.

I created this look for church, a very soft and sassy look.  *Yes, you can be slightly sassy for church* lol

Sleep, Baby, Sleep

Being a new mum means limited amounts of sleep.

Found a product that helps baby sleep.  I am telling you it works. Johnson’s Bedtime Baby Bath and Lotion.  These two products are must haves for all babies. When it is bath time and I really need for the LM to sleep (when he is fighting sleep and getting fussy), I use the both bath and lotion.  He usually goes to sleep in about 10 mins and can sleep up to 5 hours.  I still use the regular Johnson Baby Bath and Lotion because I do not want to over use the bed time products.

The scent is lavender and chamomile… very relaxing for baby and parents.

When using these products, keep track of changes to baby’s skin, if any.  LM skin reacts well to the Bedtime products, but do not assume your baby will.

Total Beauty – Total Cure

Kia, from Slvrlips’ Musiq and Beauty Haven blog, sent me info regarding the Total Beauty Breast Cancer initiative for the month of October.

From Official Press Release:

October 1, 2008, Los Angeles, CA: Every three minutes, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer.  This staggering statistic resonated deeply with the members of the Total Beauty blog community, many of whom have been personally touched by the disease.  In the spirit of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, TotalBeauty.com, in partnership with its network of beauty blogs, is hosting a month-long initiative that integrates breast cancer awareness, breast cancer research fundraising and beauty giveaways to engage women in the quest for a cure.

Total Beauty – Total Cure is dedicated to increasing awareness about the importance of prevention and early detection, and arming women with the knowledge they need to take control of their health, bringing us one step closer to a world without breast cancer.

“As a hereditary breast cancer survivor, I know the importance of early detection. Research is the key to increasing survivorship and finding a cure.  I am more optimistic than ever that it’s possible.  I am thrilled that the beauty bloggers are joining together to do their part,” remarks beauty blogger, Debbi O’Shea.

Breast cancer information, screening guidelines, and links to available resources will be integrated throughout the campaign.  The Total Beauty blog community will engage its readership through daily giveaways that require entrants to answer breast cancer trivia, making the contests dually educational and fun.  Giveaways will also be hosted on Total Beauty – Total Cure pages on Facebook and MySpace; throughout the month of October, all visitors who become a “friend” of the pages will be entered in a drawing to win a bounty of beauty products.

Giveaway sponsors include Anastasia Beverly Hills, Benefit, Cargo, Clarisonic, Jurlique, L’Oreal Paris, NARS, Stila and Tarte.  This unique collaboration of beauty bloggers, beauty brands and Total Beauty is one to show a united voice of strength and hope that, someday soon, we will close in on a cure to breast cancer.
