Beauty.com Friends and Family 20% off Sale

I have been totally excited about the Sephora’s Friends and Family 20% off event starting November 6th to November 10th.  The online discount code is FF2008.

Well, I was checking my updated Blackberry Curve, (thanks Brit) and I was too happy to see an e-mail about Beauty.com’s Friends and Family 20% off Sale.   My only beef with this sale is that it excludes NARS. You need the link <— to get the 20% off.  The sale starts @ 12:01 AM, November 5th to 11:59 PM, November 7th. (No time zone was specified)  Remember that every purchase earns a 5% cash back.

Happy haulin’,

O Canada Pt.2

When it comes to beauty finds, Canada is quite egalatarian.  You can find Clinique at Sears; Smashbox, Elizabeth Arden, and Cover FX at Shoppper’s Drug Mart (SDM), which is comparable to CVS or Walgreen’s.  These brands are found in major department stores here in the United States.

Last year, I was looking to purchase a kabuki brush.  Since we were in Canada, I decided to check out Shopper’s Drug Mart.  I was hoping to get a Quo brush, a SDM brand.

QUO Bronzer Brush Quo Contour Brush

I read mostly positive reviews of their brushes on Specktra.net.  I walked over to the Quo brushes and I was not pleased with the selection.  There must have been a sale or something because many of the brushes were sold out.  I found a suitable brush called Cover FX after further search, which I never heard of before.  The bristles were soft and it came with a neat little pleather travel bag.   When we got back to the hotel, I checked the brand. In the U.S., Cover FX is sold at Sephora and Nordstrom.

If I saw this brush at either store, I would not have purchased it… would have purchased a MAC kabuki instead, which I was trying not to do at the time (and still not done.)  Regardless of that, I love my Cover FX kabuki. One of the few brushes that I use on a regular basis because I have other brushes that I can rotate.

Whenever you are in Canada, check out Shopper’s Drug Mart.  They tend to be pretty easy to find like drugstores here (you can always check SDM’s website.)  You may be surprised with SDM’s beauty finds.

Love Is When……

Hey Pumps and Gloss-ers,

Before we jump into “Sex and Love Week,” please congratulate me on completing a Bachelor’s of Science-Business/ Marketing degree. The process was long and arduous, but I enjoyed every minute, even if I had frequent complaints. I want to thank my family and friends for their prayers, support and encouragement. I love you all!!

When I was a teenager the only “erotica” I could be seen reading was Songs of Solomon.

2 Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth—
for your love is more delightful than wine.

3 Pleasing is the fragrance of your perfumes;
your name is like perfume poured out.
No wonder the maidens love you!

4 Take me away with you—let us hurry!
Let the king bring me into his chambers.

Songs of Solomon 1:2-4

I have always been interested in erotic literary works. In college, I was introduced to Noire Erotique/Black Erotica. This book is a must have!! This anthology includes prose, poetry and fiction on sex and love. One of my favorites from the book is the erotic horoscopes. (Sidebar: I am not a reader nor follower of horoscopes.) The prose describes how each sign likes to make love and what signs they are compatible with. A fun read!!

Another Book that I have is Dark Eros. This book is not as great as Black Erotica, but definitely worth the read. One of the poems in the book was written by a high school classmate. I am glad that he was able to parlay his amateur writings into published work.

These books showcase love, specifically, Black love in a more positive light. Many of the popular images (i.e. videos) turn our love into random acts of lust. Yes, we do care for and love each other.

Each book has helped to shape my view of sexuality. I learned that I do not have to settle for the virgin or slut roles. I can be lady and a freak all at the SAME time!! 😉

Let us know some of your favorite Erotica book titles. Looking forward to your comments.

Since I love books and learning, here is my favorite songs, Teach U A Lesson, by Robin Thicke.

For all the lovers in the world, Alicia Keys’ new single, No One, Mr. Carob and I can relate to this song… Good Job, Alicia!!

Hope you are enjoying “Sex and Love Week” as much as we are.

Keep It Sizzling and Sexy,

Sexual Carob

Mix Maven’s Birthday Wish List

Good day Pumps and Gloss readers:

My birthday is fast approaching. (I will be 24!!) (Did I just hear someone say “Again!”) 😉

Well, I do not usually have a list …but this year is different.

First on my list is Mac OS X (Leopard).

I was miffed when I read that iPhone delayed Leopard’s entry into the market. I was very much looking forward to the application coming out in August, but the new release date is in late October. (well after my b-day, but I am always accepting gifts ) 😉 There will be many new cool features.. Can’t wait!!

In my recent order from Sephora.com, I received a sample of Narcisco Rodriguez’s For Her. This perfume has a woodsy talcum scent, which I, surprisingly, enjoy. (I love fruity scents like Tribu and Origins’ Frolic.)

The Kenneth Cole Reaction “My Boo” Flat is a great everyday shoe. I love the shiny and shimmery. This shoe would jazz up most casual outfits.

I also like Steve Madden’s Plus. This shoe was very comfortable on my feet. Also a great travel/grocery shopping shoe.

I have and will always be a fan of the swing coat. Michael Kors and Luii have offerings that are just delish. I love the classic print of houndstooth. You cannot go wrong with this gift (to me). While I am not a huge fan of red or matching, the Luii swing jacket would go great with my Richh (from Steve Madden) pump.

I have always appreciated the writings of Robin Williams. I have one of her books, The Non-Designer’s Design Book, which has been very beneficial. I have had the Design Workshop on my wish list.

Maybe this will be the year that I receive as a gift.

And you know a gift card does not hurt (MAC Cosmetics, Nordstrom, Bath and Body Works, for a store [online or brick and mortar] that sells Ben Nye, HomeGoods.)

I hope that everyone has a great week.

Live Triumphantly,

Mix Maven

P.S.

A very loud shout out to my daughter, Renita. Thanks for the wonderful gift (2 shiny black cards). You know mummy loves you.
